Posted by Concorde^^ | 7:27 AM | , | 0 comments »

Created by Swiss designer Carlo Borer, OTTO is more than a fan - it’s a piece of furniture with a purpose. The wood ring frame is made of quartered sapele, which has been oiled twice for a high quality, matte finish. Three fan speeds and height-adjustable feet make it versatile for any space. While an air conditioner is typically 100 Watts, OTTO is only 45 Watts, helping you save money on energy without cluttering space with the eyesore of the typical box fan.

As they are often small spaces, bathrooms can be designed purely for practicality. However, by allowing in plenty of natural light, and using a defined colour and material palette, it is possible to create pleasant, individualised bathrooms like the ones on these pages.
These four bathrooms are all located in the same home in Singapore, which was designed by Maria Arango and Diego Molina of Ong&Ong.

This bright, white and gray kitchen is open to adjacent living spaces and looks directly out over a large rear garden. The simple material and tonal palette results from the architect's perception that domestic interiors should provide a calming respite from the gaudy colors of contemporary urban life.
Stainless steel cabinetry is a standout feature of the space. This reaches all the way to the ceiling, partly to avoid the creation of trapped areas where dust might settle.

An in-wall, see-through fireplace and a coffee-making area are two features of the open-plan kitchen.

Home Design - Kohler Shower

Posted by Concorde^^ | 10:09 AM | , | 0 comments »

Trends in bathroom design are all pointing in one direction – towards a look of luxury. Modern master suites, both here and overseas, increasingly reflect the refinement of a five-star resort hotel. And it's not just the marble-lined interiors that are creating this luxury – fixtures and fittings are enhancing the bathing experience.Kohler has been instrumental in furthering this transformation. The company's innovative bathroom furniture, showering products and whirlpools have helped create relaxing bathroom retreats that delight the senses and sensibilities of homeowners and guests alike. Not surprisingly, Kohler continues to mesh art and advanced technology to create products that enhance the bathing experience. The Kohler WaterTile bodysprays and showerheads are a good example. The WaterTile concept brings a clean, streamlined aesthetic to the bathroom.Keith Kometer, director of product marketing for Kohler Global Faucets, says the WaterTiles, which can be ceiling and wall mounted, reduce the showering experience to its essence."The WaterTile combines efficiency and bold design to create a product that is unlike any other shower. Its highly understated form provides an experience that is both sensual and visual."Another Kohler product that epitomises the idea of the bathroom as a sanctuary is the Purist Hatbox toilet. With its well-proportioned, elliptical shape and clean, minimalist look, the Purist is particularly suited to contemporary bathrooms.

A single, subtle splash of color may be all that's needed to create the required atmosphere for a living space. This kitchen is central to the layout of living spaces in a penthouse apartment. It is in the great room, which comprises the entry vestibule, living area, dining table and kitchen, and intersects between these and the private spaces of the apartment.Kyle Gaffney, of SkB Architects, was asked by the owners, who entertain regularly, to design a kitchen that would be part of the great room experience."They wanted an entertainers' kitchen that looked like part of the living area, and with enough storage to allow them to tidy up quickly if the doorbell rings," he says. For a contemporary look, cabinetry is in a dark bog-oak veneer, with frosted glass overhead cabinets and open shelves to lighten it. Adding texture and an unexpected flash of color is a recycled-glass backsplash tiled in a random pattern. An extra-long island is specifically set up for entertaining. It defines the kitchen, separating the hosts' zone from the guest area, without intruding on any social interaction. Stained light gray, a recycled wood bar counter sits over the top of the living room end of the island. It can be a buffet during parties, and shields the sink from view. In the island are two sinks; one, extra-large and hidden behind the buffet, provides a place to hide dirty dishes, while the second, smaller sink, at the far end of the island, is for food preparation.

Home Design - Pool with LED light

Posted by Concorde^^ | 5:08 AM | , | 0 comments »

There are several design options when looking to create an expansive ambiance within a modest area. When one or more are used in conjunction, the result can be that much more effective.
This back yard domain, by landscape architect Dan Gayfer, achieves a generous feel on several fronts. A central feature is the layering of the space, with each tier denoting a distinct area of use.
"The area at the back door is used for barbecues and indoor-outdoor gatherings; the swimming pool forms the central area; and the rear of the space is for lounging," says Gayfer. "Materials, as well as elevation, delineate each of the three areas, which are floored in bluestone tiles, mosaic tiles and spotted gum. An eye-catching feature of the space is the glass window on the house side of the pool. This extends the line of sight right into the water, expanding the look of the greater area. Seen from the house, the entire outdoor vista appears to fade into the distance through the use of black paneling, which covers the rear wall and climbs to form a cantilevered canopy ceiling. A secret door set into the paneling provides access to a storage area at the rear, for pool and gardening equipment that would otherwise clutter the look of the space. This discreet area is also home to the pool plant and a toilet."Another way to make the most of limited available space is to find dual uses for elements," says Gayfer. "The side path leading to the rear in this garden, for example, doubles as seating for the pool and barbecue areas. "While the design fits together like a jigsaw puzzle, there's always something to draw the eye between areas, evoking a greater sense of space."

LED lights tucked into shadow joints create a floating ambiance for solid concrete steps.

This rear yard achieves an expansive feel through deft use of form, materials and demarcation of spaces. Trees accentuate the height of the side walls and break up the extended planes.
